Question 1

What is the ideal direction for the dining room per vastu?

Accepted Answer

The dining room is most auspicious in the E, N, W direction(s) according to classical vastu. Each rule below shows the specific source text and reasoning.

Question 2

Which directions should the dining room avoid?

Accepted Answer

The dining room should avoid the S, SW direction(s) according to multiple cited rules. Severity tiers (critical / high / medium / low) indicate how strongly each rule prescribes the avoidance.

Question 3

What classical texts cite dining room placement rules?

Accepted Answer

The dining room rules on this page are paraphrased from primary Sanskrit sources: Mayamatam, Manasara, Samarangana Sutradhara (King Bhoja, 11th c.), Brihat Samhita ch. 53 (Varahamihira, 6th c.), and Vishvakarma Vastu Shastra. Each rule's references[] array on this page lists the specific text(s).

Question 4

Are these rules absolute, or are remedies available?

Accepted Answer

No vastu rule is absolute — every dosha (defect) has a corresponding remedy ranked by severity, disruptiveness (renter vs structural), and cost tier. See /vastu/remedies for the 30-remedy library.

Question 5

What if I rent rather than own?

Accepted Answer

Most vastu remedies are non-disruptive (mirrors, plants, color paint, salt bowls, yantras) — applicable in rented homes without construction. The /vastu/remedies library lets you filter by "disruptive: false" to see renter-friendly options only.
