Question 1

What is Vastu Shastra?

Accepted Answer

Vastu Shastra is the classical Indian science of architectural placement — orientation, room layout, and directional energies. Roots in the Atharvaveda; elaborated in Mayamatam (Tamil, ~10th c.), Manasara Shilpa Shastra (Sanskrit, ~5th-7th c.), Samarangana Sutradhara (King Bhoja, 11th c.), Brihat Samhita ch. 53 (Varahamihira, 6th c.), and Vishvakarma Vastu Shastra.

Question 2

How does the Vastu scan work?

Accepted Answer

Pick one of two inputs. The text form (this page) lets you enter rooms and directions manually — instant client-side scan against 36 cited rules. The image scan (/vastu/scan-photo) takes a floor-plan photo and uses AI vision to detect rooms before scoring. Both produce the same {score, violations, compliantRooms} output with severity tiers and classical-source citations per violation.

Question 3

What if I want to verify advice from a paid pandit?

Accepted Answer

Use /vastu/verify. Add each piece of pandit advice (room + direction + ideal-or-avoid claim) and the verifier compares each claim against the cited rule catalog, returning matches / contradicts / unverified plus an overall agreement rate. Runs entirely in your browser.

Question 4

Is Vastu only for new construction?

Accepted Answer

No. Most rules apply equally to existing spaces. 31 cataloged remedies (mirrors, plants, color paint, salt bowls, yantras, structural fixes) are tiered by disruptiveness so renters can apply non-destructive remedies (most of the catalog) without remodeling. See /vastu/remedies for the filterable library.

Question 5

How accurate is the engine?

Accepted Answer

The 36 rules are sourced from classical texts with 99 citation references across Mayamatam, Manasara, Samarangana Sutradhara, Brihat Samhita, and Vishvakarma Vastu Shastra. We don't invent rules. Same input always returns the same score (reproducible). If a placement is borderline or context-dependent, the rule's reasoning tags surface the nuance instead of giving a binary pass/fail.

Question 6

Are these tools free?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Every vastu tool on MiAstrea is free forever. We never run advertising. Optional paid PDF reports support the project. The image scan has a 5-per-IP-per-day soft cap to keep API costs sustainable.
