Question 1

Is a north-west-facing house good as per vastu?

Accepted Answer

Ruled by Vayu (wind). Suited for transient occupancy + guesthouses. The strengths and cautions on this page summarize the classical vastu position; specific room-by-room guidance lives on the per-room pages linked below.

Question 2

Where should the main entrance be in a north-west-facing house?

Accepted Answer

For a north-west-facing house, the auspicious entrance pada selection follows the 32-pada theory from Mayamatam ch. IX. The N / NE / E padas are universally favorable; SW pada is universally inauspicious. See /vastu/room/main-entrance for the cited rules.

Question 3

What are the common doshas for a north-west-facing house?

Accepted Answer

Common cautions for this facing: Less stable than N or E facing — not ideal for long-term family homes · Master bedroom must still anchor SW for stability. Each can be addressed with cataloged remedies — see /vastu/remedies.

Question 4

Does this advice differ for apartments vs independent houses?

Accepted Answer

For apartments, the building's facing applies to common areas, but each unit's internal layout follows independent vastu rules. Apartment occupants control only their unit (not the lift / staircase placement). The room-by-room rules linked below apply equally to flats and bungalows.

Question 5

Are there classical Sanskrit sources for facing-direction guidance?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Mayamatam ch. IX (entrance pada theory), Manasara ch. VI (plot orientation), Brihat Samhita ch. 53.4-12 (deity-direction mapping), and Samarangana Sutradhara ch. XV all cover facing-direction principles. Each rule on this site cites the specific text where attested.
